The Centre is deeply committed to fostering lifelong learning and life skills development for women, youth, and children.
For women, the Centre runs empowerment programs at different levels—ranging from awareness raising to practical skills for income generation. These initiatives also focus on women’s rights and responsibilities, gender equity, and intergenerational learning,
helping women to grow in confidence and independence.

Recent activities

Youth are actively engaged in a variety of activities that build essential life skills, encouraging them to become confident, resilient, and capable of addressing challenges. Through these opportunities, they are inspired to see themselves as agents of change
within their communities.

Carried out activities

Youth Capacity Development workshop (2018) Global Action Nepal in collaboration with Gan Research and Learning Resource Centre organized a two-day Youth Capacity Building Workshop at Gan Learning Centre Chunukhel Lalitpur for young people from Saibu, Bungamati, and Khokana.

–  To orient and motivate the youth to take up self-volunteer for their own community
– Improve the quality and recognition of youth work in social work
– To make practical understanding on contents of delegation and action for youth action.

Youth Action Research

An action research, related to school dropout, was conducted in Bungamati and
Pyangaun communities of Lalitpur district, Nepal in collaboration with NCE Nepal, Global action Nepal and Gan Research and Learning Resource Centre. The major objective of this research was to generate knowledge about the situation of young people, aged 10-24 both male and female who has left the school before completing their high school. Hence, young people framed the research questions to understand youth perceptions of their early school dropout and alternative pathways out of poverty, and how these intersect with exclusion and discrimination.

The research team led by young people used the mixed method and applied a creative
and engaging methods, such as survey, interview, focused group discussion, and group reflection. The major respondents of this research were the marginalised young people living in the marginalised communities of Bungamati and Pyangaun. Data were
collected from twenty-five young people. The methodology was co-constructed by the youth researcher and the team of Gan Research Learning Resource Centre and Global Action Nepal. The purposive sampling was followed, and gender balance was
maintained on participant selection.

(First Step Project)

Youth Champions for Green Schools and Climate Change (2024 ) Globally, Nepal is ranked fourth in terms of vulnerability to climate change; women and children are disproportionality at risk. Every people are naive about the changes in season, changes in
temperature; farmers are experiencing unusual agriculture seasonal products, suddenly many species are disappearing, glaciers are melting, snowcapped mountain like Machhapuchhre turned out to be a black mountain. People in Namche bazar, Solukhumbu (Himalayan District) are confused getting mosquitoes in such a mountainous cold place. It is vital people to understand the changing scenario due to climate change and adopt themselves and plan their future as the situation appears.

It is the responsibility of all mankind to protect the changes taking place in the current environment. In addition, it is necessary for the youth of today to join in this to save the environment, while it is also the responsibility of the youth to transfer the right environment to the future generations. For this, it is very important for the youth to have life-skills, and through the use of life-skills, the youth can fulfill their obligations and also understand and activate others in this work.

Therefore, the project has designed to response the need of the given issues engaging youth champions who are the agent of social transformation for positive change with having following objectives and outcome
Objective:
– Capacity development of 15 youth champions and 5 focal teachers on life skills and
enhance their knowledge on climate change
– Develop social and life skills of youths and focal teachers to mobilize them in 5 schools
to deliver training on life skills and climate change to the students of the schools.
– Support to develop "Green School" to targeted school through establishment of Green-
Club and mobilizing them through different child club activities

 

Outcomes

Primary
– 15 youth Champions and 5 focal teachers developed their capacity on life skills and climate change to deliver knowledge and skills to the children, youths and parents

Secondary

– 500 children enhanced, 75 youths (peers) 1000 parents demonstrate their understanding on climate change through using life skills
– Development of Green-School in Lalitpur Metro-politan City ward no. 22

At the same time, the Centre prioritizes the education of marginalized children by providing scholarships, distributing educational materials, and engaging them in different activities like Run for my schools, critical thinking and supporting teachers with
